POKOTABI / Maruen
丸苑
From tender kalbi and harami lunch sets to tripe chigae packed with ingredients, evening special platters, and samgyeopsal, Maruen serves satisfying Korean cuisine and yakiniku in Higashi-Nihombashi.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
When you need a revitalizing midday meal centered on grilled meats, Maruen in Higashi-Nihombashi provides a substantial selection of lunch sets. The house specialty kalbi set lets you grill nicely marbled, tender beef right at your table, supported by generous sides of salad, namul, and soup. Alongside the kalbi, prized for the direct sweetness and rich savor of its fat, the menu features a harami set with a leaner, gentler beef flavor, letting you choose the cut that suits your appetite.
Just as compelling as the yakiniku are the various chigae stews, each built around a concentrated broth. The horumon chigae comes loaded with cuts such as honeycomb tripe, small intestines, and omasum, yielding a deeply savory soup and pleasantly chewy textures that call for plenty of rice. Options like seafood sundubu chigae, infused with a gentle shellfish stock, and seafood cheese chigae, mellowed by melted cheese, make comforting choices when you crave a piping-hot bowl.
As evening approaches, the spread expands to feature generous group fare, led by the Maruen Special Set with its assortment of meats, as well as thick-cut samgyeopsal grilled until crisp and fragrant. Crisp-fried chijimi savory pancakes and choregi salad tossed in a lightly spicy dressing fill out the table between grilled bites, pairing easily with beer or wine.
The dining room is organized primarily around table seating, with smartphone-based QR ordering that accommodates everything from a quick solo lunch to dinner with friends. Evening service runs until 23:30, making it a reliable stop for a satisfying dinner or casual drinks on the way home from work.
